night shift

4 May, 2009

Safe home from another crazy-busy shift. Patients are coming in with the slightest and earliest onset of flu symptoms, worried about the swine flu. We are now testing for the virus, but the results are about 48 hours out at this point.

I want to assure my patients that swine flu is no more virulent than the seasonal flu, but that is outside of my scope of practice. The doctors are handling that part of it well. I can tell them what the latest news is, though. I can “quote” the news to them.

I work a 12 hour day every Wednesday this month. I only hope that the patient load declines a bit soon.

In academic news: I am LOVING my health policy class. I get to be the one who follows and reports on the Obama/Biden healthcare reform developments. It is incredibly exiting to be on the clinical as well as the political end of the healthcare spectrum.

Goodnight, gentle readers.
